Web Dropins:

Reading to be Informed
Current Events uses the website Scholastic News Zone. Students read a current news article and complete a 5W organizer and a summary.
Reading for Information Using the Internet is geared towards teachers who need to provide some reading strategies when using the Internet for their elementary students. The linked worksheet can be used with any reliable website that provides information.
Party Planning on a Budget  is a math/consumer awareness activity for grades 3-5 where students are given a spending limit and 'shop' online for items. Students must make wise choices about the products they 'purchase' in order not to overspend. Teachers may elect to have younger students use the online shopping cart, or students may complete a table and calculate the cost of the food themselves.
Fun Poetry is suitable for students in grades 3-5. This activity can be adapted for a variety of Language Arts topics. Students learn about the enjoyable form of clerihew poetry (I never heard of it either!) and then create their own clerihew poem based on a character of a book they have read, or a person you assign to them. A page is also available for printing for their rough copy with the rules for the poem.
Maryland State Symbols This activity is designed to have students investigate the lesser known Maryland State symbols, and to complete an activity to inform others about these unknown symbols.

Elective Activities:

Search Tips  help upper elementary students narrow their results. Also includes an activity page to complete. Clip Art Here is a collection of good clipart sites for teachers and students to find graphics, backgrounds, and icons to use for their projects.
Not sure what to do with the computer in your classroom? Here are some links to browse and a plan for creating your own activities in the One Computer Classroom.
Lesson Plan Website Links   for the K-5 teacher looking for ideas to integrate technology into the curriculum. Safety on the Web Teachers, are you preparing your students to use the Internet safely? Use this handy checklist to make sure that you and your students know, understand and follow a few basic safety rules.
Evaluating Websites  How can you help students determine good websites from bad ones? This activity will take elementary students through the process of evaluating two websites, and they can compare their findings with mine! Web Radio and on-Demand Audio Programming  is a collection of various sites which feature audio and video programming and archives.
Solar System Virtual Field Trip was created for the new CCPS Earth/Space Science Unit for PreK-3, although most appropriate for third grade.
