Objective: Using Netscape Composer, students will learn how to create a simple webpage using text, background, graphics and links.
Objective: Students will create a web bibliography consisting of text, graphics, background and five links or more on an educational topic of their choice.

Introduction: Many teachers are interested in creating their own webpages in order to make web bibliographies and other Internet-ready activities for their students. There are many web-authoring tools available, but I have found Netscape Communicator to be free and relatively easy to use in creating simple webpages. The instructions below will help you learn how to make your first webpage using a few "semi-advanced" web design principles, but still easy enough for you to meet with success. You will then complete an assignment using your newly acquired web-creation skills.

Activity: You will read and follow the instructions on the resource page on how to create a webpage using Netscape Composer. You will then complete the assignment below and make it available to your students.

Assignment:
Using the information gleaned from the page, "Creating a Webpage Using Netscape Composer," create a web bibliography page on an educational topic of your choice. The page should contain the following elements:

• At least 5 annotated links to appropriate websites for your students in a table format
• Visually pleasant background and text choices
• At least one graphic from the Internet with a link to a website.

Software needed: Netscape Composer (part of the Netscape Communicator 4.79 Package)
If you need Netscape Communicator 4.79 (I have found that to be the least intrusive version), click the Netscape icon  and follow the directions.
