1999 marks an important year in German history: the 10th anniversary
of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the 50th anniversary of the establishment
of the Federal Republic of Germany, the 60th anniversary of the beginning
of WW II, the 61st anniversary of Reichskristallnacht, Goethe's 250th birthday,
and the 750th anniversary of the city of Weimar, the birthplace of the
                              Weimar Republic.
The Maryland Chapter of the AATG and the Department of Foreign Languages
at Western Maryland College invite you, your students, and anyone who is
interested to celebrate this year's German-American Day on Tuesday, October
12, 1999. This year's theme will be "A Salute to Germany '99". The main
attraction will be the unveiling of a "portable" replica of the Berlin
Wall. Participating students will paint the West side with various motifs
                              from German history.
