Internet Literacy

Web Site Evaluation

A component of Internet Literacy is being able to critically evaluate a website. It is important to evaluate websites to make sure the information found on the site is reliable. There are five criteria to use in order to do this.
CRITERIA USED TO EVALUATE:
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO:
Accuracy
Evaluate the information to make sure it is reliable and error-free.
Authority
Look into the author and try to find out their credentials.
Objectivity
Be sure the Site does not contain bias and that it is not being used as a commercial or opinion page.
Currency
Check to see when the page was created and when it was last updated.
Coverage
Make sure all links are active, the information is cited, and it is easy to navigate through the page.
