Prelude to Revolution - This site has a timeline of the major events that led up to the Revolutionary War. This would be a good resource for teachers or students looking for a timeline that puts everything in sequence and perspective.

Liberty! The Road to Revolution Game -
Hot Site - This is a game on the PBS website for a series they created and aired.  This site would be a great activity for a class-- it answers questions and offers hints when the wrong answer is given (somehints come from actual newspaper articles of the time!). Once you get the right answer, you have the option of learning more by watching historians  or again, reading relevant articles from the time.

Major Events of the Revolutionary War - This site contains about 50 links to major events of the war, including Paul Revere's ride, Valley Forge, and the Battle of Yorktown. Each link contains a painting of the event and a short blurb. This would be a great resource for teachers or students looking for pictures to supplement Powerpoint presentations. It would also be a great review site for students to use while studying the Revolution.

Drums Along the Mohawk - This site is valuable for a few reasons. First, it gives the viewer an opportunity to see the experiences of the Revolution far from the popular locales such as Philadelphia and Boston. Second, it includes a link for "Letters from Home", which allow viewers to read first hand accounts from the time.

Wikipedia’s “Underground Railroad” - This is a link to an online encyclopedia article. It includes a depth of information on the traveling routes, conditions, and terminology that travelers on the railroad created. This also offers links to similar topics and timelines.

Underground Railroad Chronology - This website offers a chronology of major dates in the formation and abolition of slavery while also providing important dates in the history of the Underground Railroad.

National Geographic’s Underground Railroad Journey - Hot Site - This is a virtual trip on the Underground Railroad. It takes the student to relevant geographic locations and also brings up issues travelers on the railroad faced, such as the meaning of lanterns, “safe houses”, and slave catchers. This is a great activity for students; it is educational and entertaining, and also provides students an
opportunity to solidify their skills in exploring the Internet.
Sarah's Tip: This site contains sounds throughout the game, such as singing and talking.

The Underground Railroad Travel Itinerary - This is a registry for acknowledged stops on the Underground Railroad. It also offers an itinerary for anyone interested in traveling to trace the major sites of the Underground Railroad. It would be a great activity to use for an AP History class to put everything in perspective for major research projects, and it would also be good for teachers in grades 7+ looking for supplements to their plans.

Encarta's "The American Civil War" - This is a link to an online encyclopedia article. It includes a wide variety of information on the American Civil War, including the causes, major events and in depth analyis of each year of the war. This would be a great resource to supplement research.

The Boyer Letters - This site contains fifteen letters written by a Union soldier to his wife and his father. A great resource for students to read first hand what life was like as a soldier and as a citizen at the time.

Remember the Ladies - Hot Site - This site contains a handful of links that illustrate the role of women in the Civil War. It contains short biographies of over ten women involved in the war in a variety of ways, including spying, nursing and fighting. This would be a great starting point for a research project.

The American Civil War - Hot Site - This site really covers it all-- major military figures, the secession of the South, battles, and timelines. A great resource for teachers or students, this site encompasses all major points of the Civil War in a student friendly manner.
Sarah's Tip: The years in the left frame are links to very informative timelines. The timelines themselves contain links to biographies of army figures, pictures of battles, and more!

The Civil War Quiz Site - This has a handful of online quizzes on major themes and events before, during, and after the war, from the Compromise of 1850 to the Reconstruction. This site offers many opportunities for assessment, and also has links for reading and further activities on all of the topics.

The History Guide to Egyptian Civilization - This site offers a great overview of many topics taught in mainstream Egyptian Civilization classes. The topics include the dynasties, the weather, Egyptian writing, and Egyptian imperialism. It also includes a table listing the periods in Egyptian history.

The Egyptian Experience - Hot Site - This site is a PBS site, that contains links to Educational Resources and an interactive "The Egyptian Experience". The experience itself is an interactive activity with maps, a hieroglyph translator, and a guide to life as an Egyptian (in all walks of life, from worker to pharoah). The Egyptian Experience would be great for students, and the Educational Resources would be very helpful for teachers.

Tour Egypt - This site titles itself as a guide to modern and ancient Egypt. It has a plethora of resources, including travelling to Egypt and translations of common phrases. While it isn't a site based totally on ancient Egypt, it is valuable in showing what Egypt is like today.

Egyptian Challenge - This site is similar to jeopardy, but on the web. It does not automatically keep scores, though. However, the questions are geared towards students. It would be a great activity for students, individually or in groups.

History Link 101's Ancient Egypt - This site really is a "101" on Egypt-- pictures, biographies, timelines, art, and games. The real gem in this site is its guide to daily life-- where it maps out the class system in Egypt , explains fashions, and discusses Egyptian advances in medicine.

This site would be a great activity to use for a class or for anyone needing a large amount of web resources related to Ancient Greece.

Ancient Greece.Com - Hot Site - This is the kind of site that makes you ask, "Why can't all sites be like this?" It is literally the go-to website for all things Ancient Greece, including: Art & Architecture, Mythology, Wars, Daily Life, and Geography.

BBC's Ancient Greece - This is an easily navigable site that divides Greece by the areas of Corinth, Athens, and Olympia. It also includes a glossary of major terms and a timeline of Greek history.
Sarah's Tip: Under "Classics", there is a great activity that asks questions about Greece and also requires the student to know basic terms in order to move on. If the students get lost, they can highlight the pictures and they will "glow" to show they are the right thing to click on.

Ancient Greece Index - Is it the night before a test and you forget who Herodotus is? Go to this site. It is an index to almost any topic you can imagine related to Greece. Each link takes you to a page describing that topic. This site would be great for students or teachers who need a quick refresher course about a certain topic.

Why is this a Hot Site?  This site is a great activity for students. It offers a bit of competition for the students that enjoy it, but it also encourages students who get the answers wrong to continue.  With each question it offers more information and links to articles.

Maryland and the Underground RailroadThis is a great site. It would be a wonderful activity for teachers to use with their students. This site has many activities, including:

Why is this a hot site? This site is really amazing. The interactive map with Maryland will really help any teacher in the region illustrate to students how many slaves were in their region, how the number of slaves fluctuated over the years, and what areas had the most slaves. The interactive maps could be really valuable in illustrating the dangers of excaping, and the page teaching symbols and terminology of the railroad would be a great activity. I spent over an hour on this site just on my own!

Why is this a hot site? This site does a great job at illustrating what life was like for ancient Egyptians. The interactive maps allow students to put all of Egypt's major cities in perspective, and allow the student to zoom in on the city's temples. They even contain 360' pictures of the temples today!
