Access to the media is the most crucial aspect to a successful media program. As a media specialist I will work to balance the academic demands with the needs of the community. There should always be time when students are free to enter the media to browse and read. To maintain this welcoming and nurturing atmosphere I will develop a schedule that allows for flexible and open access to all patrons. I will also create access for students and staff from home, as shown in My Media Web Site. Through this web site, I will provide information acces to facilitate the learning process away from the school building. Students will have remote access to research materials such as World Book, SIRS, and Gale Student Resources. I will also create sites that students can use to easily access materials. Book Nook allows students to choose book by author, title, or genre. This could be used in school or from home. Students could then request books from the school collection or request a book from the public library. Students often have to complete research projects at home. Several of the artifacts assist students in their completion of their project; Copyright Laws, Do they apply to me?, Instructional Research Handbook, and How to Cite Sources in a Research Paper. It is through these strategies that my media will become a place that cultivates modern learners and promotes the love of reading.
