PDS Introduction for Interns

You are about to begin a practicum experience for between 2 and 2 ½ hours twice each week during the semester to accompany your elementary education methods course. (EDU 2015 Processes and Acquisition of Reading, EDU 3324 Balanced Reading Instruction, EDU 3312 Elementary Social Studies and Science Methods, EDU 3314 Elementary Mathematics Methods, EDU 4205  Assessment for Reading Instruction) You will work in one of McDaniel College and Carroll County Public School Professional Development Schools under the close supervision of a qualified mentor teacher.  A professional development school (PDS) is a collaboratively planned and implemented partnership for the academic and clinical preparation of interns and the continuous professional development of both school system and institution of higher education faculty.  The focus of the PDS partnership is improved student performance through research-based teaching and learning.

Using the CCPS school websites listed below; research some background information about your assigned PDS.  Read the staff list, school newsletter, school calendar, school improvement plan and other postings.  Complete the table below and bring it to the second orientation session.
