Research is a multi-step process that is best accomplished using a series of systematic steps. A decision-making model such as the AGOPP Research Model can help you effectively plan and execute your research efforts.

AGOPP Research Process

Ask Questions

  • Access background knowledge
  • Analyze the problem and develop/refine questions

Gather Information

1. Identify keywords
2. Brainstorm and choose best sources of information
3. Skim and scan for information that answers your questions
4. Record notes and bibliographic information

Organize Information

1. Organize your findings
2. Draw conclusions and inferences

Prepare/Produce Information

1. Choose the best medium to communicate your findings
2. Prepare a draft
3. Prepare a Works Cited page

Present and Assess Information

1. Revise your draft
2. Prepare your final product
3. Present your findings to your audience
