This site presents a sample of online collaborative projects that would be suitable for middle-level social studies classes.  These are only a few examples of ways that students can "experience" the past, present and future while meeting other students from around the globe.  ENJOY!!!

My Hero - Students arount the world can research heroes based by category.  Once students find a hero that they like best, they can design a webpage that commemorates that hero. North American Quilt - Research geographic information for your hometown/region.  Then, post your findings on a page so that you can compare the geographical features in your area to others in North America!  Great for 7th grade teachers to use in connection to the geography unit.  - Date visited 9/25/04 http://www.onlineclass.com

Creative Connections Project - "Travel" to Latin America, Africa, China and more!!  Students have the opportunity to connect with other students from different world regions.  This site would give 7th grade social studies students to experience what is learned in the classroom, while "meeting" people from those areas studied.  - Date visited 9/25/04 http://www.ccph.com/

The Renaissance Connection - Students can explore many aspects the Renaissance through this site, which runs in connection with the Allentown Art Museum.  Design inventions and investigate new art forms and artists who gained their fame during this time period.  This informative site helps students recognize the passion for the arts and sciences impacted society in Europe during the Renaissance.  - Date visited 9/25/04 http://www.renaissanceconnection.org/

Postcard Geography - Students can exchange purchased, computerized or handmade postcards with other students.  Looking at the variety of postcards received, students can compare different physical and human features of a place.  Excellent connection to a lesson on the Five Themes of Geography!!! - Date visited 9/25/04 http://pcg.cyberbee.com/

Westward HO! - Students experience the drama, action and adventure of westward expansion as they join the journey on the Oregon Trail!! School World Projects:  Cultural Centre - Students can help in the creation of a virtual museum!  Simply collect information on the unique features of your culture to share & compare.  Helps students begin to appreciate differences in cultures throughout the world!!  - Date visited 9/25/04 http://www.schoolworld.asn.au/culture/

Kids Vote 2004 - Learn about the election process by "voting" in the 2004 Election!!!  Students actually have to register and then vote in the Novemeber election.  Site inludes activities for students to learn more about the candidates and the electoral process.  Teachers must register for this site to work.  - Date visited 9/25/04 http://www.rockdale.k12.ga.us/hce/onlineprojects/KidVoteAmerica/index.html

International Culture Exchange via email - Students create an email with at least 3 pictures and 25 interesting facts about their country.
