Lesson Plans for the Social
Studies Teacher
This site will link you to sites
containing Lesson Plans that meet a Social Studies Curriculum. Because
I am not currently teaching, the curriculum linked in this site is the
one used by Howard County Public Schools.
The curriculum for secondary social studies education can in Howard
County can be found at:
Lesson Plans
& Teaching Strategies - This
is a fairly large website. It contains links to nearly three hundred
lesson plans and strategies. There are lesson plans for elementary,
middle, and high school teachers. The subjects range from History to
Economics to Government. The plans are divided into the categories of
Overview, Purpose, Objectives, Activities & Procedures and "Tying
it all Together". Middle and High School levels

It has a TON of lesson plans that a teacher could sift through.
But that's the problem-- there's no indexing or organization. If the
teacher had the time to go through the lessons and find applicable
lessons to their units, it would be a really valuable resource (from my
exploration, many of the lesson plans correlated with Howard County's
curriculum).

Economic
Education Web - A great resource for Economics
classes. The lessons address Nebraska state standards and National
standards as well. The plans are divided into the categories of
objectives, procedures, materials, time needed, activities, closure,
assessment and extension. Evenly split between middle and high school
lessons.

The Library of Congress' Lesson Plans - This site is the
History teacher's one stop shot. It covers all the units from seventh
grade and up, from Government to Colonialization to The Vietnam War.
The lessons are organized into categories of objectives, time required,
curriculum fit (which explains where in a curriculum it can be used),
resources & materials, activities, extension and evaluation. There
are lessons for the middle school and high school levels.

Discovery
School's Lesson Plans - This site, created by the Discovery
Channel Online, is a great resource. Lessons are organized under the
categories of Objectives, Materials, Procedures, Evaluation,
Vocabulary, and the lessons are matched to Content Standards from the
National Council on the Social Studies. The lessons are for the
subjects of Ancient History, World History and US History.

Mr. & Mrs. Donn's
Lesson Plans & Activities - I just had to include this site in
my list. This website offers lesson plans for subjects from Geography
to Driver's Ed, links to clip art pages, software, and scholarships,
and even offers a section just for substitute teachers!!! There are
unit plans and lesson plans available. The lesson plans are
compilations of lessons made by other teachers, so the formats differ.
In general, however, they contain the main components of lesson plans,
from objectives to motivation to activities, etc.

There are so many subjects and lessons within the subject, so it may
take some time to find the lessons you want! However, I am sure it will
be worth it!
