I. Connection with the Library Community
Having a connection with libraries and media centers outside of your home facility allows for the sharing of a broader selection of resources, potentially strengthening the learning possibilities for students. Having a relationship with the professional library, one can assist other teachers in locating materials for their own classrooms or personal interests. Partnerships with public libraries can lead to greater learning opportunities for students, who can gain access to materials not always available within a school setting. Locating academic and private libraries willing to share resources with students can enable college bound students to gain an edge over their peers.
Artifact and Reflection
The artifact labeled "Spectrum Training" is a letter from the Director of School Library Programs in MCPS thanking me for my service at an annual meeting day. All MCPS media center staff were in attendance at this meeting, where they were able to choose from a variety of workshops to attend. I provided training during several of these workshops, instructing attendees on the new version of Spectrum, the automated library system. "Spectrum Procedures" contains a few examples of the procedures I wrote and trained staff on at the workshop. These artifacts are representative of my potential for establishing connections to other libraries and the larger library community for resource sharing, networking, and developing common policies and procedures.
