Standard Three   Collaboration and Leadership

I. Connection with the Library Community        III. Educational Leader

II. Instructional Partner

As a future school media specialist, my role as an instructional partner will have many facets.  I anticipate my position as a technology expert within the school community as one aspect that will frequently be in demand.  I have taken numerous steps to acquire experience for this role, including my undergraduate degree in communications, graduate coursework in multimedia technology, and school web design classes offered to staff within the school system.  As a school media specialist, I will continue to participate in local and system-wide technology training and share my newly acquired knowledge with my school staff.

Artifact and Reflection

The idea for this in-service was born of necessity while I was a media assistant at Dr. Martin Luther King Middle School.  I created this sign as both an instructional tool and troubleshooting guide, and attached it to the side of every television in the school.  I went over the described procedure with the staff during an in-service day, and provided hands-on time for staff to read the directions and practice making the correct connections on their own. I encouraged staff to refer to the sign in the future before using valuable class time to send students to the media center to obtain technical assistance. Developing a hands-on in-service is one example of how I have participated in faculty and staff development opportunities as an instructional partner.
