In the highest civilization, the book is still the highest delight. He who has once known its satisfactions is provided with a resource against calamity.

My Reflection on an Effective and Knowledgeable Teacher

My Media Web Site, Biomes of the World, Pyramids of Egypt, Curriculum Chart

To be an effective media specialist you must be willing to reach out to classroom teachers and create a collaborative relationship. Media specialists must be knowledgeable of the media curriculum and how that curriculum can support the subject curriculum to enhance and enrich the classroom experience. I created an artifact, Curriculum Chart, that simplifies and categorizes the Howard County media curriculum goals within the ALA/AASL Literary Objectives. By using this chart, media specialists can integrate their curriculum with the classroom curriculum, effectively supporting the learning process. I have created several lessons that expand on the curriculum within the classroom. For Social Studies, I created an activity that allows students to explore the Pyramids of Egypt from their computer. I also created a Science activity that uses critical thinking and problem solving skills as students compare and contrast the different Biomes of the World. As an effective media specialist I will articulate the goals of the media to parents and staff. I created the artifact called the Curriculum Chart for staff and parents so they can understand the progression of learning from year to year. Additionally, I would have a media web site that is continually updated to allow for communication with parents as well as students when they are home. This is demonstrated in My Media Web Site. It is through these relationships that an effective media program is developed.
