Four Day Weeks at Flagship Southeast Schools

The University of Florida stands out as a school that goes to class on Friday in the traditional way (over half the time using MWF classes). The rest of the schools range from 48 to 34 percent. While this is evidence of considerable growth of MW classes, these schools still have class on Friday much more than most schools in the Ivy League and some of the elite liberal arts schools. While the flagship schools are not as selective as the more elite schools they are more selective than other state schools and they seem to be resisting the four day week. I have already documented some very poor use of Fridays at some more common state schools and I think it noteworthy to see the more selective state schools are doing better at preserving Friday as a class day. This suggests that they believe that class on Friday is important even if you have strong students.
