Standard #3: Collaboration and Leadership |
Objective: Candidates demonstrate leadership with the school community.
Indicator: • Candidates are able to articulate the relationship of the library media program
with current educational trends and important issues.
Artifact:
Paper on Collaboration between Teachers and LMSs
Reflection:
During my Library Administration course, I chose to study collaboration as an issue in libraries and education because I understand collaboration to be an important element of a well-run media program. In my research paper, I drew on over a dozen sources to understand the differences among cooperation, coordination, and collaboration. Each of these practices will have a place in my media program; however, true collaboration will be encouraged and modeled consistently because, as I learned, collaboration between the LMS and the teacher leads to improved media literacy as well as increased subject competency. While I may be writing on the subject of libraries and education while I am a media specialist, I will certainly continue to keep up on reading the current research in American Libraries, School Library Journal, and subject area journals such as The English Journal, which often contain educational research and lessons that are relevant to best practices like collaboration.
