Safety on
the Web – Using the internet in school can open up a lot of
educational experiences for students.
First, it is necessary to educate students on safely navigating the
web. It is also important to make
parents aware of how their children are being protected. At this site there is a student
checklist/agreement form as well as a parent notification letter.

Drop Ins:
Dropin 1 – Here is a reading to perform a task
activity for second or third grade students. The students visit two websites where
they are asked to complete the same task; however, the format of the directions
is different. The students complete
each task and use their background knowledge to evaluate the two sets of
directions.

Dropin 2 – Here is an activity that is directed
to students learning about the life cycle of the butterfly. The students are directed to a website
that contains information comparing butterflies and moths. After reading the information, the
students print a comparison chart and complete the assignment.

Dropin 3 – Students will interpret data from a
graph by using the graph to answer questions. This activity will introduce students to
a comparison bar graph, and lead them to create their own. This activity is intended to challenge
second grade students and is appropriate for third grade students as well.

Dropin 4 – Students will compare four kid sites
and complete a graphic organizer to state their opinion about which site is the
best and then identify three supporting reasons. This is a writing to persuade activity
intended for second or third grade students.

Dropin 5 – Students will read an on-line
story. Then, draw illustrations to
represent the beginning, middle, and end of the story. This is a reading for a literary experience
activity for kindergarten.
