Web Quest List
WebQuest: The
Symphony Orchestra (Elementary)
by Kelly Duhrkopf Summer 1998 – This Quest asks five questions about
Orchestras. It is done in conjunction
with a unit on orchestras in music class.
The students have been provided with a good list of regional and
nationally ranked orchestras in the US
to study. The culminating activity is
having the class evaluate each orchestra by, as a group, answering their five
key questions about each ensemble.
Music Education (Middle School)
by Ruth Koltookian Fall 1997 - This
is not a Web Quest. It is a collection
of 14 web resources which are nicely organized and annotated … and stored in a
list of Web Quests. The resources are
good enough to warrant keep this link around.
WebQuest: Famous American Female Composers
By Scott Hall Spring 1999 - Students
are guided in a very detailed manner through the process of researching and selecting women composers to feature in a special concert. This is truly a “guided” activity. Instructions are very complete as are the
provided Web resources.
WebQuest: Music
Enrichment Activities (5–12)
by Marsha Nichols – This quest has an amazing number of resources that span a
large scope of age and grade levels. It
actually seems like many quests in on package.
Three variations on each assignment are allowed and the level of
resource complexity ranges from upper elementary to collegiate. I gather that the “enrichment” aspect of the
title gives a reason for the complexity of the structure.
WebQuest
for Grade 8 "You and your group will
look at several different ways that parts combine to make wholes - in science,
music, and sports."
– This
Quest is a multi disciplinary lesson combining Science, Music, and Physical
Education. The music segment provides a
worksheet and challenges the students to assemble a familiar tune, then use the
“parts” to build their own tune.
Opera Quest
- The students are to make a study of "La Cenerentola" . They will become familiar with the story
line, the cast list, the composer, Opera terms, etc. There are extensive online resources made available. This program was developed in conjunction
with the 10th anniversary of an Opera Residency in the
district. I would assume the students
would eventually see this production.
NOTE: Many of the returns from search engines include annotations regarding music such as this one. I am pleased to see the Arts being included in such activities. Here is an example:
Walk
a Mile in His Shoes (Multiculturalism) – A
Quest written to deal with ethnic diversity and cultural differences. The students will study the culture, art,
and music of a specific culture. Here
it was an Indian student who was hurt when other made fun of his traditional
garb. This Quest appears to be part of
the teacher’s answer to that incident.
