RX-7 Second Generation “FC3” List

“The largest 2nd generation RX-7 site has made it's own e-mail list so that FC owners can have a place to share info, and learn new things. We have also taken in the members of the TeamFC3S list so that they can all benefit from a more reliable list. There are other FC lists, but this one is up to date and current 24/7!”

List Owner: Dave Clark of FL RX-7 Club.

This very active list is not moderated and is dedicated to those who drive, FIX, and just like, rotary engine cars.  It is centered around the 2nd generation (1986-1991) RX-7’s in specific.  These cars are different, therefore finding a mechanic that is well versed in “rotary” is hard.  Even the dealers rarely have mechanics who are “current” with rotary engine repair since the last rotary engine vehicles were sold in the U.S. in 1995 and 1996 (leftovers).  Add to this the outrageous prices the dealers ask for their parts and you can see the value of the combined experience and expertise of the list members.  There were 1,702 messages posted in March 2002.

Because of nature of the engine, and the performance possible from such a small power plant, most of these enthusiasts are very technically inclined.  Frequently they are engineers, computer programmers, or professionals of some kind.  They do most of their own work and this forum is a way to share their knowledge base as well as swap parts.

Messages range from arranging “Group buys” of equipment and parts to total engine replacements.  Meets and events are organized and “driving” stories are told.  Many Listers participate in the SCCA racing circuit or Auto Cross events on weekends, which are heavily discussed during racing season.

My current communications have focused on what to do with my dead engine, or maybe, with the entire car!  In January the engine blew its rear rotor seals.  Not good!  I have been able to get a great deal of feedback on prices for rebuilds, for parts to do it myself  (I dunno about that) and what I can expect, in the way of cash flow, if I “liquidate”.

This list has been the difference between having this car for 12 months before I gave up and having it for 5 ½ years before IT gave up!  Come to think of it … maybe my wife wishes I had never found this list!  : )
