Caroline County Public School System – Recommended Sites

This index, developed by the Caroline County Public School System, Caroline County, Maryland contains a selected group of over 1,600 web sites that have been recommended by educators. The Math Forum – This is an online resource for improving math learning, teaching, and communication since 1992.  The resource is designed for teachers, mathematicians, researchers, students, and parents to learn math and improve math education. I Included in the website are problems and puzzles; online mentoring; research; team problem solving; collaborations; and professional development. The website features “Problems of the Week”, “Ask Dr. Math”, “Math Tools”, and “Teacher2Teacher”.  Date Visited – 2/ 7/06

Education World - This site is a potpourri of resources categorized by lesson planning, administrators, school issues, professional development, technology integration and resources for parents.  It also includes monthly site reviews from a database of more than 500,000 resources and links.  Date Visited – 2/ 7/06

Thinkport – This site is a resource for Maryland educators, families, and communities from Maryland Public Television and the Center for Technology in Education of the Johns Hopkins University.  The site includes classroom resources such as lesson plans, video clips, on line field trips, new teacher support and career information, technology resources, and family and community resources.  Each month features different resources connected to current topics.  For example, for the month of February there are fitness resources for National Heart Health Month, and myriad resources for African American History Month.

Teachers Network - This site is a nationwide, non-profit education organization.  Major Features of Teachersnetwork.org include, “Daily Classroom Specials”, lesson plans, videos for teachers, online courses, “For New Teachers”, grants for teachers, and a teacher store.  Teachers Network grants and fellowships are awarded in the areas of curriculum, leadership, policy, and new media.

TeachersCount - This is the website of TeachersCount, an organization devoted entirely to teachers. It is the mission of TeachersCount to address problems with our education system by “recognizing the originality and creativity of our nation's 3.4 million teachers, thanking them for their efforts, and rewarding them with valuable services and resources.”  The site features resources for practicing teachers, those who want to teach, and teacher “boosters”.  Date Visited – 2/ 7/06

The American Museum of Natural History’s Online Educational Materials - This is the American Museum of Natural History’s online educational materials for teachers and others interested in learning about science.   This site is the winner of the 2004 Golden Lamp award for Technology from The Association of Educational Publishers.  “Resources for Learning” was developed for educators, parents, students, after-school coordinators, and informal learning center staff to make the museum’s collection of scientific and educational materials more readily available to anyone interested in teaching and learning about science.  The resources include activities to engage learners, curriculum materials, articles (text, photos, and videos), exhibition materials, evidence and analysis used by scientists, and reference lists.  Date Visited – 2/7/06 http://www.amnh.org
