Objective: Stimulating Learning Environment
| A media center should be a place where everyone who uses it contributes ideas to improve its services and its appearance. A good media program involves seeking ideas from users and then implementing those that meet its mission. The best way to find out what students and staff think is to ask for their suggestions and opinions. Therefore, I prepared artifacts that focus on two areas that could use improvement in appearance, the RMHS “reading nook” and video-editing studio. The reading nook is crowded and has hideous furniture. When our drop box for suggestions was put out, ideas that came from students and staff included removing the half empty books on tape rack and shelving the tapes somewhere else. Also suggested was the removal and re-shelving of the National Geographic magazines. Our second area that needs updating is our editing studio. With the exception of the editing equipment, the studio, itself, is boring and badly needs re-decoration. For this area, staff and students suggested asking the Student Government Association for help in re-painting. In addition to improving the appearance of the editing studio, the media program is seeking ideas about how to improve services to those who edit. Pending funding, the media center is planning to add additional, newer editing equipment which will improve our service to students and staff. Therefore, since the two artifacts seek collaboration from our staff and students to create a positive educational climate in a technology-rich media center, they meet the Target level for this objective. |
