Standard 2

Standard 4

Standard #1:  Use of Information & Ideas

Objective:  Literacy & Reading

My first class in the School Library Media Program at McDaniel was Literature for Children and one of my final classes is Literature for Young Adults. During that first course I decided to create my Annotated Bibliography as a web site so that students would be able to access it online. I will be doing the same with my Young Adult Annotated Bibliography. I want to encourage students to read some of these fabulous books which can make a reader cry with anguish or whoop with laughter at a character's plight. The Midwife's Apprentice presents Brat, a young girl so poor that she sleeps in a dung heap. A Year Down Yonder gives us Grandma Dowdel who knocks pecans from trees with a tractor. Also included in the web site are annotations for older books such as Sarah, Plain and Tall, and contemporary, multicultural titles such as Martin's Big Words and A Single Shard. Therefore, the Children's and Young Adult Literature web sites meet the Target level of this standard.
