As an intern for my SLM degree, I planned and taught  the “TV Script Lesson" while at Cabin John Middle School. The idea for the lesson was mine and I wrote the “Jeopardy” script that is part of the lesson package. Mrs. Chase, Media Specialist at CJMS, provided the “Little Red Riding Hood” script and ideas for organizing the students while they worked in the TV studio. When I returned to Richard Montgomery High School, I worked with Mr. Eric Rodney, instructor in TV production, to further adapt this lesson for his high school TV production class. In designing appropriate instruction, I suggested to Mrs. Chase and Mr. Rodney that specific information literacy skills be included. Therefore, this lesson includes activities for students to practice working effectively as a group and to use information accurately and creatively, literacy skills that complement this content area. Students also practice quick camera change techniques which is a TV production skill. I also suggested that students work in groups to create their own scripts, thereby practicing critical thinking, problem solving and language usage skills. Working with Mrs. Chase and Mr. Rodney only reinforced my belief in the value of designing lessons with colleagues who can provide in-depth knowledge in their fields. Additionally, my internship presented opportunities for me to share expertise in providing print and electronic resources to teachers to use with their lessons and in teaching students how to prepare works cited documents. The SLM program at McDaniel has stressed the value of working with other professionals and it is a practice I will employ across all curriculum areas when I am a Media Specialist.  Since I shared ideas and expertise with two other professional colleagues in the design of this lesson, this artifact meets the Target level for Instructional Partner.
