Yahooligans! the Web Guide for Kids – A perfect beginning site for elementary leveled children to search for information. The search engine at this site brings up web pages that are child appropriate. This site also has links to jokes, news, and sports for kids. http://www.yahooligans.com

 

KidsClick! Web Search – Designed by librarians, this site was constructed to guide children in locating good and appropriate sites on the Internet.  When searching for information on the Web, the search engine at this site will also send back web pages that are elementary leveled.

Science Sites

Federal Resources for Educational Excellence – An enormous list of sites dealing with science subjects is maintained by different governmental departments.  This site had links to topics that ranged from dinosaurs to earthquakes.  Most of the sites listed were to web pages designed for elementary students.

Volcano World – The Web’s Premier Source of Volcano Information – A great collection of informational pages about volcanoes is located at this site.  There is a game section for children which include puzzles and artwork.  An index of additional volcano sites with a short description of these links is also included.

Volcanoes – Volcanoes and how they are formed are explained at this site.  Children studying volcanoes in the elementary schools at the primary and intermediate level would benefit from viewing this site.  The diagrams and pictures included at this site are a must for science class.

Scholastic’s The Magic School Bus – Many science activities and games are found in this science site based on the popular books and television show, The Magic School Bus.  Several of the topics studied in third grade science have activities listed at this site.

National Geographic – Volcanoes – The pictures of volcanoes on this site are excellent.  Much of the text about volcanoes is difficult for elementary leveled children but the pictures are well worth viewing!

Volcanoes! – Cutaway pictures of volcanoes with a small clip of Mt. St. Helens erupting are included in this site.  Also available here are lesson plans and teaching activities which could be adapted to the elementary level.

Earthforce – The forces in the earth which create volcanoes and earthquakes are discussed at this site.  There is much text at this site and few pictures but information listed is important and relevant to third grade curriculum.

Liftoff to Space Exploration – Information about the moon is located at this site.  There is also a calendar which will show the moon phase for any date entered.

To the Moon – Video clips of the Apollo 11 landing on the moon can be viewed here.   Audio clips of the Apollo 11 astronauts telling the story of their voyage to the moon can be heard here.  This is a good multimedia site for information on the exploration of the moon.

Solar System Simulator – Determine what planet or moon that one would like to is to be viewed and this web site will show a photograph.  The earth and moon can be viewed from different locations at different times of the year, amazing!
