Introduction:

The three basic types of rocks found on the earth surface are called metamorphic, igneous, and sedimentary.  These rocks are formed in different ways and look differently.  After examining two different web pages the characteristics of these rocks will be easily understood.

 

Information:

Rocks come in all different sizes and shapes.  Pick up a rock.  What do you notice about the rock?

Is the rock an unusual color?  Does the rock have stripes?  Are there holes in the rocks?  After reading through the following web sites, most rocks will be easy to categorize.  At the following web site www.fi.edu/fellows/payton/rocks/create/index.html  discover the three major categories of rocks.
