Box and Whisker Plots

A box and whisker plot is a pictorial representation of the 4 quartiles of data.  It is used widely in data analysis.  Many states now include Box and Whisker plots on their State Assessments and therefore have put it into their curriculum.  Your job is to gather background material on the Box and Whisker Plot and then to take a set of data and create your own Box and whisker plot and interpret your findings.

Check out this site for instructions on how to construct a Box and whisker Plot.

Jeff Gordan is one of NASCAR’s star racers.  Using the following web site create a box and whisker plot of his points.  See how many of his races fell into the upper quartile and note if there are any outliers.  Take note of the other exciting information about Jeff Gordan!
