Newsletters

Online newsletters are a vibrant and potentially engrossing means of receiving up-to-date information about a wide variety of subjects.  I chose to subscribe to the “Education CyberPlayGround” and “Democracy Now” newsletters.  Both are delivered daily for free to my email address.  The CyberPlayGround network includes stories aimed at helping teachers of K-12, updates about education technology, and news about nationwide student contests.  It also provides software for teachers at the K-12 levels.  It may have valuable stories about art education, as well.  Democracy Now is an independent news service that keeps readers updated on human rights concerns worldwide in an effort to supplement the corporate media’s coverage of important events.  It includes live videos, updates, and daily headlines in its report on war and peace.

Both newsletters are easily removed by way of the “unsubscribe” option highlighted at the bottom of the body/text.  In terms of usefulness, CyberPlayGround is valued highest by teachers, especially tech-savvy ones.  The Democracy Now newsletter is organized into a convoluted block of text, so subscribers will find it easier to visit the website for news stories instead of muddling through the newsletter.  Overall, both newsletters were very informative, and I recommend both as useful sources.
