Tim Snyder’s Web
Index for SLM 521
Requirements
Search Engines These search engines have countless ways
to assist classroom instruction, ranging from new concepts to providing
ideas. I have listed five search
categories: image, news, Meta, travel, and shopping. Under each of the categories I have listed
two search engines that I believe are the most advantageous. Both are user friendly and provide practical
ideas for education.

of educational material useful for myself, colleagues, and students. Among these resources includes tools, tips,
and ideas to promote art knowledge and education. There are four different website categories
in this bibliography: general art teaching, art history, art skills, and art
supplies. http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/snydert/webbib.htm
Course Module
Effective E-mail Tips and Suggestions This course
module covers an entire lesson for secondary students on several e-mail tips
and suggestions. Nowadays, e-mail is
emerging as the standard for communication.
It is important for students to learn and understand e-mail tips. Moreover, students need to realize that
e-mail can be used for important matters such as responding to important
issues, sending documents, or even applying for jobs. The module format follows the suggested
course module template. Within the module,
there are three main activities in which the students are assessed: a “before”
e-mail, questions to answer, and an “after” e-mail. A rubric is included to assess students’
work.

Drop-ins
Dropin 1 This drop-in is a mini introduction to a new
art unit on Cubism. Examples by Pablo
Picasso, one of the famous artists from this movement, will provide visuals and
give students a better understanding of Cubism.
There are two websites that students need to visit, which will help them
answer the questions provided. This mini
introduction will help students learn the basic cubist concepts and familiarize
themselves with examples by a notable artist.

Dropin 2 This drop-in is a unit introduction to Pop Art,
a notable artistic movement in the latter part of the 20th
Century. There is a website that
students need to visit, which will give students an overview of Pop Art. There are also photographs of Pop Art
creations by three of the most famous artists from this movement: Warhol,
Johns, and Lichtenstein. To conclude the
assignment, there are four questions that focus on Pop Art in general, specific
work, and ideas to consider for an upcoming project. This introduction will hopefully inspire
students about this contemporary artistic movement.

Dropin 3 This drop-in is an introduction to the color
wheel. The color wheel chart is
important for students to learn and understand because it not only displays the
colors, it explains how unique color sets are created by the combination of two
or more colors. In this introduction,
there is a color wheel chart along with a famous painting by Vincent Van Gogh
to familiarize students with the basic color wheel concepts. The questions are helpful in that they cover
aspects of the color wheel along with the painting’s relationship to an
important color set.

Dropin 4 This drop-in is a short lesson on opposing
theories in art. Art is a noteworthy
subject not only for its skill and craft, but also because the meaning behind
artworks sometimes varies. Leonardo Da
Vinci’s famous Mona Lisa is one of
the most controversial artworks in history, not because of its aesthetic skill,
but rather the underlying meaning. For
more than a century, historians and critics have debated over the mysterious
meaning behind this artwork. This lesson
is designed to give students a glimpse on multiple theories, especially when it
comes to eminent artwork.

Dropin 5 This drop-in requires students to research
information on the color wheel then recreate a chart of their own. The color wheel is an important tool in art,
and students need to be aware of its principles in order to effectively use
color in their artwork. For this
assignment, students will research the color wheel and create a chart with the
12 basic colors along with a minimum of 3 color sets. This chart will be saved for future reference
and added to when necessary.

Electives
Plagiarism This document is essentially a handout for
teachers on plagiarism. It provides
information about Internet plagiarism, things to be aware of, and recommendations
for teachers on ways to help students avoid plagiarizing. I have listed three sections: precautionary
recommendations, clues for recognizing plagiarized papers, and resources for
detecting plagiarized work.

E-Mail Tips This document includes a list of ten tips
and suggestions for secondary students on effective email communication. Students in this age range are familiar with
computers and at this point need to learn not only how to email, but proper
ways to do so. Students should
understand the importance of these tips and be aware of them as they compose
emails.

Learning Games This document includes a list of the
three best learning game websites for the four major subjects: English, math,
science, and social studies. There is a
vast array of Internet games that are educational for students. Many of these games could work as an
extension to a lesson but, if nothing else, serve as great leisure time
activities. This activity is directed
towards the secondary level. Under each
category, I have listed the three best game websites along with a minimum of
three game examples.

Lesson Plans This document includes a list of five
websites containing art lesson plans for the secondary level. Since most lessons are derived from trial and
error, it is important for teachers to share their successful lesson
plans. The websites listed include a
variety of lesson plan topics, and will be excellent sources for secondary art
teachers to refer to time and again.

Clipart This
document includes a list of the five best clipart websites. Countless websites offer clipart that can be
downloaded and added to documents.
Teachers of various subjects can use clipart to enhance lessons and
provide visual examples for assignments.
Many clipart websites provide a list of clipart by topic. More advanced websites provide a search
engine for users to explore. Again, this
document presents a list of the five best clipart websites I came across. Included in the document is a description of
the website, two clipart examples, and the URL.
