Help with Literal Equations

Web Dropin #4

Introduction:

There are many websites on the Internet with tutorials for students in almost any subject.  If you are struggling with a topic, you can look at one of these sites for extra help.  This activity will get you familiar with some of the sites available for your use.  Since we have just finished studying literal equations, we will begin there.

Information:

Professor Freedman’s Math Help is a site that has tutorials on many different algebra topics, all written by students.  It also contains study tips, how to find your learning style, note-taking strategies, and ways to reduce math anxiety.  (The URL for the home page is http://www.mathpower.com.)

Purplemath, on the other hand, was written by professionals and also has an abundance of mini-lessons.  Additionally, it includes tips for studying and doing homework.  (The URL for the home page is http://www.purplemath.com/index.htm.)

Activity:

Visit the mini-lessons on literal equations at both of these sites.

Which site would you recommend for someone having trouble with literal equations?  Why?  (Comment on the               organization, thoroughness of the information included, visual appeal, and your ability to understand what is             being taught.)
