Dear Parent(s),
Your child will be using the computer center frequently this year to search the Internet during Biology class. This experience is educational in the sense that he/she will learn how to appropriately use the Internet to find what he/she is looking for and to learn about various Biological topics. Due to the ambiguity of the Internet, the school and myself have taken several precautions to insure that your child is safe as he/she accesses the Internet.
The school has installed a filter on its computer network to prevent the appearance of any pornographic sites and/or pictures on the computers inside the school. This filter will also prevent unwanted spam from popping up when your child accesses any website on the computers. The school also requires that a teacher or administrator be present in the computer center at all times during school hours so that no unauthorized and unsupervised use of the computers is allowed.
I have provided your child with a checklist of expected behavior in the computer center to bring home for you to sign. Both your signature and your child’s indicate that both of you have read and understand the rules to using the Internet appropriately and the consequences if these rules are broken. I want to assure you that when your child is using the computer during classroom time, I will be monitoring activity to prevent any misuse or abuse of the computers or your child.
If you have any questions about this letter, the Internet Safety Checklist, or your child’s use of the Internet, please feel free to contact the school and talk to an administrator or myself.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Sheehy
