Classroom Internet Safety Checklist

In order for you to be able to use the school computers you must read the following statements and sign your name in the blanks provided. Your signature at the bottom indicates your agreement to follow the rules of Internet use and your acknowledgment of the consequences if you choose not to comply with the rules. A copy of this sheet will be made; one for you to take home and get signed by a parent and to keep in the front of your notebook as a reminder and one to be kept in my files for verification of receipt and signature.

Rules:

1. School computers are used for searching the Internet and as word processors only

2. I will keep to the search engines allowed by the school

3. I will never download or open email from unknown persons

4. I will not disclose any personal information, such as my name, address, or telephone number, to any unknown persons over the Internet without the permission of the school

5. I will not download any information from the Internet unless it is for educational purposes and authorized by a teacher or administrator

6. I will not enter any chat rooms

7. I will not fill in any pop-up ads

8. I will not use the Internet to:

· Bully or harass others

· Violate copyrighted materials

· Play games unless authorized by a teacher or administrator

· Invade another person’s privacy by accessing personal files without permission

· Override school security for Internet use

9. If I have a problem I will ask a teacher or administrator as soon as possible

10. I will not sign on to AOL instant messenger or any other instant messenger service

11. My parents could be held responsible for the payment of any repairs necessary due to damages that I have created

12. If I suspect any computer to have a virus I will inform the teacher or administrator present immediately so that spreading of the viruse can be stopped or prevented

13. I will not hide any of my work from the teacher or administrator

Consequences:

Breaking any of these rules will lead to your removal from the computer room and the termination of your Internet privileges until I determine if and when they should be reinstated.
