Instructional Modifications

 

 

Children with Visual Impairments

  1. Allow more time to work
  2. Check on student periodically
  3. Invest in a Braille keyboard
  4. Pair a student who has a visual impairment with a student who does not.
  5. Research Braille screens, which are available and turn printed text on the computer screen into Braille
  6. Set the computer setting to large print and large icons
  7. Shorten computer assignments
  8. Use appropriate colors for the impairment
  9. Use different lighting levels on the computer screens
  10. Use programs which read the material, such as Kurzweil and Intellitools

 

 

 

Children with low reading levels

  1. Allow more time to work
  2. Allow student to get one-on-one help at the resource room, if needed
  3. Divide lengthy assignments into smaller, more manageable assignments
  4. Make directions simple and clear
  5. Pair the student with a stronger reading student
  6. Periodically check with the student
  7. Provide study guides to highlight important information
  8. Set computer settings to larger prints
  9.  Use computer programs to read difficult passages
  10.  Use web sites that are more geared towards the student’s reading level
