Part
A:
We have already started
the unit on plants and have been talking about the various parts of plants. Now
we are going to highlight their main process, Photosynthesis, which is
important for their survival. Click on the picture of ATP below which will take
you to the site on Photosynthesis and, although the hyperlinks do not work, you
will use the information to answer the questions below in pairs. After you have
completed the questions, meet up with another group of two students and start
work on part B of this activity.
What is photosynthesis and where does it take place?
What is the chemical reaction of Photosynthesis?
Compare/Contrast the light and dark reactions, including what structures
are used for each.
Explain the two ways in which some plants can survive during the very hot
days of summer instead of turning brown and going dormant.
Part
B:
After you have completed
the questions find a partner and make a poster of photosynthesis given the
information you have just read. Include any type plant you wish and provide
sources/destinations of the chemicals used during Photosynthesis by drawing
arrows connecting the source to the destination. Remember to title your poster
and make it colorful. Posters, crayons and markers can be found on the front
table. Have Fun!
