Internet Course Module

Goals

Students will be able to navigate through the WWW to find biology activities for use in class.

Students will be able to pick the activities that they find interesting.

Students will be able to provide evidence in the form of a written letter in support of which activities we will use during the course of the class.

Content Overview

Every year teachers and school boards choose class content to be learned, activities, lessons, quizzes, labs, and tests/projects without asking students for any input as to what they would like to do. I am giving you the opportunity to research activities on the Internet to be used later in the semester. If the activities that you find are not challenging for your grade level and learning level, I will supplement other activities. This is your chance, and may be your only chance, to participate and co-write a part of your class syllabus. Have fun while working on this activity, but also make it challenging for yourself and your classmates.

Reading and Discussion

Go to the following websites and research the provided activities.

Quia – contains games such as hangman, flashcards, concentration, and word searches among many others.

Access Excellence – has problem solving activities and “activities-to-go” which teach students scientific concepts and processes.

The Biology Project – This is a part of the University of Arizona website that provides more challenging activities.

Ms. Windig’s Biology Activities Page – this site contains Biology activities and labs.

The Biology Corner – This site contains activities like web quests, interactive games, and worksheets.

Activities and Assignments

For this assignment, you will pick five activities that you would like to use during this semester, including where you found the activity and a rationale for why you chose that activity. Feel free to search for other activity sites and devise your own activity based on one that you find.

Submission

The assignment will be written on paper and turned in after the completion of the course module, in two days.
