Web Educational Games

Objective -
Students will be able to find and link to sites that contain educational games that can be used by students in their subject area.

Introduction -

Who doesn't like to play a game? Many students associate computers with playing games. Educational games are a great way for students to learn and to have fun. Recently, classroom games have come under fire because of competition and embarrassment to students who do not usually do well. With computer games, every student is on their own and does not have the pressure of competing against their peers. Each student can work at their own pace and not have the fear of embarrassment.

Activity

Many educational sites are available that contain educational games or interactive web explorations for students to play with. Visit each of the following sites that contain educational games for a 9th grade physical science class:

Sight vs. Sound Reflexes

Who Wants to be a Science Millionaire?

Science Hangman

Golf Range

Element Hangman

Assignment

Create a query for a search engine to find educational games that can be used in your subject area. Create a web link page of at least 6 sites that contain educational games for your students. Include a brief description of the game and what you would use the game for. ( review, introduce new material, etc.)
Along with your list of links, create a list of classroom rules for your students when they are on the computer playing educational games. Your rules should be clear, brief, and attempt to prevent students from misusing the computers.
