Creating Music
Morton Subotnick's Creating Music website is a delightful way to entertain
elementary aged children as well as teach them the fundamentals of music making.
At this site, children are able to draw with musical sounds, images and rhythms
in an experimental fashion which ultimately becomes their own musical composition.

New York Philharmonic Kidzone
This site opens with a cartoon image of children seated in the symphony hall
of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. As the cursor moves around the
hall and stage, children are given the opportunity to click and travel to
other areas of the site. They can enter the Musician's Lounge and select a
performer to view his/her biography and hear an example of his/her instrument.
They can view a video of their choice: Sitting in on a rehearsal, learning
about what distinguishes the sound of a particular instrument, observe a harpist's
lesson, etc.. The Instrumental Lab enables them to invent their own instrument
and the Composition Workshop is where they can compose their own music.
There are also games allowing them to match music to the composer, solve
puzzles and participate in a scavenger hunt. What a wonderful way to
educate children about symphony orchestras!
