Introduction

As technology increases in America, so to does the obesity rate in our students.   Due to video games, television and computers, children are choosing to stay inside rather than be outside participating in physical activity.   There used to be a day when after school if you were driving through neighborhoods, you would find children all over the streets and in the yards running around playing, running, and chasing.   Unfortunately, now after school, most of the streets and yards are empty, and the Internet, television and video game worlds our filled with our students.   While we are only speculating that technology is the cause of our obesity epidemic, we can all agree that a cure is needed.   As Physical Educators, our answer is an obvious one; children need to become more active.   There is no question that physical activity increases the health of people and helps them to become stronger, healthier and fitter.   One of the biggest things when discussing physical activity is talking about goals.  While you can be physically active playing sports, you can also be physically active by doing yard work, walking around the neighborhood among many of other things.

Task

Your task for this activity is going to be researching the different muscles of the body.   You will be assigned to a committee.   In this committee, you will break the human body and its muscular system in three sections with each member of the committee in charge of one section of muscles.   Afterwards, you will come together and report your findings.   As a group you will come together and establishing your goals through this unit.   Then you will develop a physical fitness plan to achieve your goal.   You will be able to access the Internet and all of its resources to get all of the information that you need to create your fitness program.   At the conclusion of this project, you will present your plan to your fellow students.

Process

Goals are very hard to accomplish and take hard work and dedication to reach them.   Completing a goal is quite a feat and you should feel very good after you accomplish it.    As a group you must decide what your overall team goal is.   You will use the Internet to research your area of the body, and come together and develop a fitness plan to accomplish the goal you set.   You will research the nutrition chart provided by the link below and establish a good diet for your group goal.   A quality diet is just as important as exercising.   Next, you will devise a fitness program covering five days a week.   On this program, you will tell the exercise and provide a diagram of the muscles being worked.    Here are some resources you will find useful and can use while performing your research:
