This page contains a comprehensive list of the work I completed during my SLM 521 course during the summer of 2003.  Among the information included on my page are links to various required and elective assignments.  This page demonstrates my computer knowledge and accomplishments in regard to the topics we covered in the course.  All included assignments are relevant to topics in literature and language arts.  Happy exploring  =:) 

 

Web Dropin Assignments:

Dropin #1 - This is a general internet assignment which requires students to log onto a specific website, select and read a poem, and answer 4 short questions.  ttp://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/roofk/dropin1.htm

Dropin #2 - This assignment asks students to log onto a specific internet site and select two poets about which they are to write a short description.  Students also must read and summarize in their own words two poems from each of the poets.   http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/roofk/dropin2.htm

Dropin #3 - This page provides a link which introduces secondary students to the Romantic movement in art and literature.  Students are required to read an excerpt from the link on Romanticism, and use what they learn to analyze a painting.  http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/roofk/dropin3.htm

Dropin #4 - This assignment requires students to visit two websites on the poet Robert Frost.  Students must read two critiques they find on a poem by Frost (one from each site), and compare/contrast the two.  Students also are asked to state which site they found to be more helpful in terms of the information available.   http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/roofk/dropin4.htm

Dropin #5 - This assignment asks students to research the literary periods of Realism and Romanticism and then to construct a chart in which to represent the information they learned.

Search Engines - This assignment involves an evaluation of a list of 10 search engines, organized into the following categories:

WebQuest - My webquest assignment revolves around William Shakespeare as a classic playwright.  The general goal of this activity is to improve students' understanding of particular plays.  Students are asked to work in groups to select and rewrite a Shakespearean play, using contemporary language and settings.

Course Module - This assignment asks students to venture on an online Scavenger Hunt in order to improve their internet searching abilities, and to familiarize them with online navigation.

Note:  The following two assignments deal specifically with Internet Safety for students in the classroom and at school.

Safety Checklist/Student Agreement – This link is a safety checklist, and a student agreement involving policies on internet usage in the classroom.  Various safety issues are addressed.  The student agreement lists specific rules to which students must agree to adhere should they choose to log onto the Web at school. – http://www2.mcdaniel.edu/slm/student/roofk/saftey.htm

Teacher-Made Websites – This link provides descriptions of two teacher-created websites.  I have included brief summaries of each of the sites, as well as an evaluation of their helpfulness in terms of information available.  Also included are commendations and recommendations for each site.  -
