Top Search Engines

General Search Engines

1.  Google:  This is my top choice for general search engines.  You can                       search a variety of topics and you always get plenty of results.  It is very easy to use and understand.  http://www.google.com

 2.  Yahoo:  This search engine is similar to Google.  You can also search a   variety of topics and get lots of results.  I find it easy to use.  I think yahoo is   a runner up to Google though.  http://www.yahoo.com

Meta Search Engines

I think in the Meta search engine category there are two that I feel are very even with each other.  Both WebCrawler and Dogpile are great search engines to find all kinds of things.  You can chose to narrow your search like for web pages, audio, video, or even news.  Both of them give you more suggestions on the right side of the page if you wanted to search more specific if you gave a general topic at first.  One search I did was on inclusion and the suggestions asked if I meant inclusion in special education and things similar to that.  Both WebCrawler and Dogpile are my top Meta search engines.  http://www.webcrawler.com and http://www.dogpile.com

News Search Engines

1.     I think that CNN is my choice for the top news search engine.  You can find news on all kinds of topics.  It is easy to understand the website and easy to find what you are looking for.  You can always find the most up to date news on the website.  http://www.cnn.com

2.     The runner up in this category goes to MSNBC news.  I also think it is a good news search engine but I feel that CNN is better. It is easy to locate the information you want on a certain news story.  They also update the site but not as up to date as CNN does.  MSNBC still offers a great site to get you news from. http://www.msnbc.msn.com

  Shopping Search Engines

1.     The top shopping search engine on the web belongs to EBay.  This search engine is very easy to use.  You can find anything you are looking for on this site because someone out there is selling it.  The items you purchase from here are usually at good prices.  The items you are shopping for usually have pictures with them so you can see what the item you are looking at is what you want.  http://www.ebay.com

2.     The runner up in this category goes to Amazon.com.  Amazon is very similar to EBay in that you can find all kinds of items on here.  I thought you could only get books but I was wrong and there are many more items to buy such as electronics, apparel among many others.  Amazon is also easy to use but I still think that EBay is a better shopping search engine but Amazon is not too far behind.  http://www.amazon.com

       Travel Search Engines

1.     The top travel search engine that I chose is Expedia.  The site is very simple to us and understandable.  It gives you many choices to choose from like you could chose vacation packages or cruises.  It gives you the option to choose activities you would like to do on your trip as well as hotels to stay at and the type of flight you want.  The prices are reasonable and if I were to plan a trip I would come to this site to do it. http://www.expedia.com

2.     My second choice for travel search engines is Priceline.  Priceline is very similar to Expedia like you are able to choose from vacation packages and cruises as well as hotels.  One difference I noticed is that Priceline does not offer a section where you can look at activities that you could do while on your trip where as Expedia does.  Other than that Priceline is up there as a good travel search engine but it is just not better than Expedia.  I would still recommend this site if you were going to plan a trip.  http://www.priceline.com
