Evolution of the Computer

A web drop-in for Grades 7& 8

Introduction:

         Computers have become such an important part of our society it’s hard to imagine life without them.  Computers have not always been as powerful or as big a part of our world as today.  You might be surprised when you learn what the earliest computers were and what they were used for.  Below are some websites which give information on the evolution of the computer from ancient times to modern day.

Assignment:

Visit each of the websites below and review their information. You will want to take notes to help you write 3 paragraphs. Your 3 paragraphs will be on:

• Paragraph 1 - A brief summary of the earliest computers and what they were used for.

• Paragraph 2 - A brief summary of the modern computer and how it is used in our society today. 
  (Be sure to discuss the internet!)

• Paragraph 3 - A paragraph predicting the future of computers and their uses in society
