Here are 5 Instructional Situations in which Translation would
be a valuable tool
They
are:
Ø Sending home information to parents who do
not speak English at home
Ø For a new student who is very fluent in
their first language which is not English, it would be a good idea to have
him/her write stories, or important messages in their native language and then
use the website to translate it for the teacher to read.
Ø
If you have a
new non-English speaking student who needs
some assistance with directions, the teacher could write out the directions in
English and then go to one of the translation websites to translate this information.
Ø With teacher monitoring and used only if needed, here are 2
ways to involve your native English speaking students. They are:
o
Students could send messages to the new
student in his/her native language
o
students
could use this website as a way to
experience what a certain academic written text in English would look like in
another language.
Ø
Emergency notices that need to go home. This is a
great way to break the language barrier and send this information home to the
family.
