Teacher Web Sites

Teacher Made Web Sites

The following are two sites made by teachers and/or media center specialists for their fellow teachers, parents, and students. Visit them – I think they’re worth it!

Just 4 Teachers

Just 4 Teachers is a site created by an elementary ESL teacher in Baltimore, MD. The site is geared for teachers of all grade levels and subjects and gives the user some practical ideas, lesson plans, classroom management, technology in the classroom, etc.

COMMENDATIONS

1.      This is a very user friendly site, set-up is nice, thorough, there is movement, but it is not too busy.

2.      The site covers all grade levels and offers the user practical ideas – great for first year teachers as well as veterans – lesson plans, bulletin board resources, etc.

3.      There is specific information for new teachers and substitutes to make the day a little easier and the transition from student to teacher a lot easier.

RECOMMENDATIONS

1.      The site itself is a series of links. While this was an amazing effort, I think it would be nice to see some of the web maker’s own ideas!

2.      The site is focused upon teachers. It is not a web site that is for parents or students specifically or for even general information regarding the teacher’s class. Focusing, even a portion of the web site, on the subject she personally teaches would have been helpful.

3.      This site is useful and should be updated at least every six months if the web maker is serious about it and wishes to continue keeping it on the www.

York County School of Technology

I confess - I am putting my own school’s web site on my list! I searched numerous sites and specifically other school districts in my county – there were none whose web page was as awesome as our librarian’s! This site covers it all for York Tech: our calendar, our headlines, our mission statement, our teaching academies and philosophies, teacher web pages, media center links – with teacher hot links for lessons for students and other teachers, athletics, graduation project requirements, adult education, position openings, and staff email!

COMMENDATIONS

1.      This is an awesome site! I use it all of the time! I especially like the media center link and the teacher hot links for lesson plans and activities, search engines, and major project resources

2.      The site is update constantly – on a weekly, monthly basis.

3.      The site is simple, user friendly, not busy at all, and chocked full of information about the school and its teachers.

RECOMMENDATIONS

1.      Some of the links are not working. Networking should update and run checks on their web site continuously.

2.      The school’s calendar should be more detailed. Maybe a calendar set-up with a “previous month“and “next month” monthly link. The user could click on a specific day and find out any and all information imperative to their child’s year.

3.      The school’s subject delivery needs to be explained in greater detail – I.E. academic subjects in relation to “academy” delivery, its philosophical ideals, and what each academy will deliver to each student and parent.
