WOMEN’S SUFFRAGE:

THE STRUGGLE

Introduction: The fight for women’s suffrage was a literal war of words, petitions, rallies, and hunger strikes. Who were these great women who fought so valiantly for a right they felt all citizens of this great nation should have? What did they do for their cause? How did they suffer? What was the eventual outcome of their work? All of these questions, and more, can be answered through the following activity.

Activity I: Using the information at the following timeline link; fill in the needed information on the timeline chart you received in class.

Activity II: Using the information at the following chart link; answer the two following questions: What was the first state to give women the right to vote? What was the last state to give women the right to vote?

Activity III: Create an outline of information on one of the most influential and recognized women in the fight for women’s suffrage – Alice Paul. You will create this outline in a word document – title it Alice Paul Outline – and save it to your student server. Print out a copy for me! Use the following links to get information on Alice Paul. You will need to outline information on: personal life, education, early years of activism, political achievement, the NWA, the ERA, and her final years.
