          Lacrosse        

 

Introduction

 

What sport combines the skills of basketball, soccer and hockey?  The answer is Lacrosse. Important to Lacrosse are quickness, speed and coordination, earning it the nick-name, “The Fastest Game on Two Feet”.  Lacrosse is the oldest sport in North America, existing since the Native Americans began playing it a century ago.

We will begin learning the important skills for a lacrosse game by first learning more about the game.  Click on the lacrosse sticks below to enter a website (www.uslacrosse.org) that will teach you more about Lacrosse. 

 

 

Assignment

 

Be sure to surf around the website in order to fully understand the game of lacrosse.  This assignment is due at our next class period.  Your answers should be typed and don’t forget to check for spelling.  After visiting the US Lacrosse website you will be able to answer the following questions: 

 

1.  Lacrosse has been played for centuries.  What are some reasons why people play lacrosse? 

 

  1. The Men’s and Women’s games are similar, but include some important differences.  In a few sentences, describe at least 3 differences between these games.

 

3.  As of October 1st, 2004, Lacrosse has been named ‘Official Team Sport’ for the state of Maryland.  The Lacrosse Museum and National Hall of Fame are located in Baltimore.  Why do you think Lacrosse is such a popular sport in Maryland?
