Elective 15
There are a plethora of
teacher-created websites designed for their students and a particular
course. Here are two that stand out.
This website
is designed for Miss Renee’s kindergarten class in North Brunswick, NJ. The site gives a lot of useful information
to parents about the class, such as the schedule and pictures from the class,
but makes it kid friendly by putting links on to help and entertain the
students.
Commendations:
1. Very colorful and lots to look at!
2. Useful information can be found on the main
page, don’t have to figure out which link to use to find it.
3. Helps the parents know what is going on with their children while they are at school everyday by giving pictures of activities.
Recommendations:
1. Take away all of the links at the bottom.
2. Get rid of the “blinkies”; they don’t add any
information and actually distract you from the real information.
3. Put links in a list, maybe even alphabetize
them; this makes it easier to find what you are looking for.
Mrs. Phillip’s 7th
grade Health Class
This professional
looking website is for a middle school health class in Harmony, Pennsylvania at
Seneca Valley Middle School. Besides
allowing students to see their grades, giving links for assignments, and
offering a joke of the day, information such as the weather, time, and date are
available. Good health, such as
lifestyles and eating habits, seem to be the focus.

Commendations:
1. Links
are given for assignments, which mean students need to visit this site for that
information.
2. Students can check on their grades in this
class.
3. Layout is clear and all information is easy to
find because of the labels/titles given.
Recommendations:
1. Some information does not go along with the
subject, such as “Today in History.”
2. Links to different area schools doesn’t seem to
fit in with the rest of the website (i.e. why would someone need this link?)
3. Not really a bad thing, but there is almost too
much information!
