Anyone want to go on a Field Trip?

Although they are a lot of work to arrange and execute, field trips are one way to help emphasize that what you’re teaching in class does pertain to real life.  Some times these locations are not geographically possible to get to, but the Internet has chances for students o go on Virtual Field Trips.  Below are possible options for students to visit sites associated with the Holocaust and the books Number the Stars by Lois Lowry and The Diary of Anne Frank.

Chamber of the Holocaust Museum

This site contains video and sounds to present some of their numerous exhibits.  Memorials of the victims and survivors are shown, as well as artifacts salvaged after the Holocaust was over.  This museum is in Israel, making it impossible to travel to as a school, but this website gives a very comprehensive look at the aftermath of the tragedy.

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

This museum is located in Washington D.C and is the national museum dedicated to this subject.  In person, this collection is very moving, and the website carries that same emotion.  Current events, such as terrorism and genocide, are also addressed.

Anne Frank Center USA

This is a traveling collection of artifacts and information about the life of Anne Frank.  Many students are familiar with Frank by reading The Diary of Anne Frank.  Photographs and artifacts are available to be studied.  Since this is a traveling exhibit, this site makes it possible to explore it whenever you want to!

Virtual Tour of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp

Auschwitz is one of the most famous (or infamous) concentration camps of the Holocaust.  It was also one of the deadliest and most brutal.  This site allows visitors to take a 360 degree tour of attractions and see what they want to see.  The pictures are very crisp and information is given about each.  I highly recommend this site.  It really makes things come alive.
