Elementary school teachers instruct
students in many core content areas.
This weblink biography is designed for use in planning a variety of
activities within each subject, including interactive activities.
General
Planning Websites
ABC Teach - Choose from a variety of
subjects to access free printable theme units, word puzzles, writing forms,
bookmaking templates and other lesson activities. For example, teachers can create shape books
which are books in the form of a particular object such as an apple or a four
leaf clover. Within these books, write
your own story for students to read or prepare the template with a writing
prompt for students to complete. For
Valentine’s Day, teachers can download the Valentine Balloon template and
instruct the students to create their own poem or story within it. The ideas and free downloadable materials on
this site seem endless.

Discovery Education - Download

Fun Brain - Incorporate subject based
interactive games into lesson plans with this website. Teachers can choose games for math, grammar,
science spelling and history by selecting grade level or by standard being
taught. In addition, teachers can select
quizzes based on their guidelines and requirements in the Quiz Lab. Students can log-on in the computer lab or at
home using a user name and password set by the teacher.

- Through the use of this website, instructors can combine reading and social
studies instruction as students follow the trail through America by reading stories
from different areas within the United States.
As students complete materials, they collect territory cards to show
accomplishments. Students also plot

Smithsonian Institution - By selecting the
teacher link on the Smithsonian Institution’s website, educators can take a
virtual tour, locate lesson plans in art and design, science and technology,
history and culture and language arts, prepare video footage for classroom
viewing, and create personal digital images for use in classroom
instruction. For example, a teacher
could incorporate this website in a lesson plan requiring students to research
Owney, the unofficial dog mascot of the United States Postal Service. From the school’s computer lab direct
students to follow the link created for them by their teacher. From this point, students might conduct
research independently or be guided through the lesson. Teachers have the option to select any topic
from A to Z and locate exactly the right information for their plan.

and Diversity Websites
CultureGrams - This website is
a subscription database. The Kids
Edition teaches students about life in 89 cultures around the world. Students begin by selecting the continent where
the country they are researching is located.
They can then select the country they wish to learn more about. On this country’s, page students have several
options. They might listen to the
country’s national anthem, see an image of the country’ flag, view a photo
album of everyday life, learn about the country’s history, culture and
population. They might also select “life
as a kid” which helps the student understand what someone their own age would
experience in their life living in that country. This is an excellent resource for lessons
dealing with culture and diversity.
