Dropin Activities:

Dropin 1 – New Zealand – This Dropin is an activity which incorporates the CultureGrams website to help students study the country of New Zealand.

Dropin 2- Lois Lowry – Dropin 2 is a language arts activity for 6th grade students to complete as they read and study Lois Lowry’s novel The Giver.  Students have the opportunity to view Lois Lowry’s biography and listen to an interview as they discuss important themes within her book.

Dropin 3 - Estuaries - During this dropin activity, 6th grade science students use NOAA’s website to discover what estuaries are and why they are important to global health.

Dropin 4 - Fossils – This dropin activity is designed for fourth grade science students and involves discovering what fossils are, where they can be found and what types of scientists participate in locating them.  Students also participate in a virtual dinosaur dig on the Museum of Natural History’s website.

Dropin 5 – Cloud Formation – Dropin 5 is designed for fifth grade science students.  During this activity, students explore cloud formation.  They visit NASA’s website to watch a video.  In addition, they read an article on the water cycle, complete a worksheet and discuss their activity in small groups.

Teacher Developed Sites – This page focuses on sites teachers have developed to share their classroom activities and communicate with their students’ families.  I chose several sites I feel are extraordinary, and exemplify the type of site I would develop for my own use.

Virtual Fieldtrips – Virtual tours incorporate the fun of an actual field trip with the convenience of never leaving school grounds.  This activity is a virtual tour brochure of four American President’s homes.  The Presidential homes featured belonged to:  George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe.

Evaluating Websites – This page is a criteria checklist for students to use as they visit websites and research school assignments.  Included in this activity are two examples of how to use the checklist in evaluating websites.  One website is an example of a good website and the other website is an example of a bad website.

Presentations – This page is a lesson I designed as a Power Point presentation for middle school students to introduce them to the author Katherine Paterson and her work.
