Elective 11- ebooks                                                            EBooks

I found this activity to be fascinating because I love to read and because I don't think I would have tried to read an ebook if I wasn't prompted.  I am a traditionalist when it comes to reading.  Althogh I know the benefits of ebooks, it wasn't until I started looking for one to read and downloaded the reader that I began to get excited.  Asthetics mean a lot to me and I was pleased with the way the reader looked. I'm sure it could get old after a while, but the novility hasn't worn off.  The options are amazing too.  I can highlight sections of text, print them out and write all over them, and I can search for the information I am looking for without having to flip through page after page in search of that paragraph I liked.  I also think that I wouldn't have as much trouble trying to keep the ebook from getting damaged.  I hold regular books to be sacred and therefore sometimes it is hard to get used to crumpling their pages and ripping their covers.  I read my first ebook and I was so excited.  It was great to scroll through the selections and then find the book I wanted.
On the other side of the coin, there are some things I don't like about ebooks.  I don't like how minimal the collection of ebooks are. I can't find some of my favorite books yet and that is disappointing. Amazon had 811 literature titles which sounds like a lot until you think of how many thousands of literature books there are.  I also don't like waiting for the information to download and the disappointment of doing something the wrong way and then having to do it over.  I like things to be layed out before my eyes and it seems like the internet moves one step at a time and will only let you see piece by piece. You have to wait after each piece is put together, for the next piece to be put in place.  This can be particularly frustrating if you've had to follow a long chain of information only to realize that you were looking in the wrong place.  This may sound like I'm talking more about the internet than ebooks, but I think that regular books are my way to escape things like the internet and I wouldn't want to have to keep getting caught in that web.
