Teacher website elective
I found the following two websites interesting and resourceful.  There are so many to explore.  I got the most teacher created web pages when I searched the Internet for "classroom web pages."

Site One
http://www.kildeer.district96.k12.il.us/fourth/SCHUMER/SCHUMER.HTML
This site was colorful, friendly and creative.  The teacher is an elementary teacher, so the sight is geared toward younger students.  She teaches fourth grade.  She has a well developed site.  She includes the general subject areas and a description of what the students are studying.  She also includes a homework section where students can access their homework online.  However, she hasn't updated the homework since November.  She includes a memo for parents and a way for them to contact her.  I can see the site being very useful for parents and students to access what is happening in the classroom.  She also includes pictures of the students and examples of projects they have completed.
Three Commendations:
1. The background page is very clever.  It says the teachers name.  The background page isn't overwhelming and it isn't too bright.
2. The site is well-organized with colorful boxes and lists.  It isn't too busy or too wordy.   It is easy to navigate because of how orderly it is.
3. The site lists what you can do there.  Rather than exploring for something that isn't there, it says exactly what one can find.  A brief list states the contents of the web page.
Three Recommendations:
1. Instead a long list of places to go on the website she could have put the list in a table.  By putting the list on a table, one could avoid scrolling as much.
2. The graphics never appeared.  She should check to see that the graphics are really there.
3. KEEP IT UP TO DATE!!!!!  It is very important to keep websites up to date for parents and students.  It doesn't look good when your web page was last updated four or five months ago!

Site 2
http://www.spusd.k12.ca.us/spms/teacher/gomez/gomez.html
This site by Mrs. Gomez is well-kept, organized, and friendly.  She has a picture of herself and a description of what to expect in sixth grade reading language arts.  Parents and students would find this site very useful.  Parents can find out when the teacher is available for conference, when the teacher can be contacted, and where the teacher can be reached.  Great idea.  Parents and students can keep up with the units of study and assignments online as well.  This teacher keeps the site updated too!
Three Commendations:
1.  The site is short and to the point.  One doesn't have to do a lot of scrolling to find the necessary information.  She makes good use of boxes and space.
2. The site is colorful, but not busy.  The site is developed to share information and not to entertain, which is great.
3. The picture of the teacher struck me as a friendly gesture.  She might have included some credentials or more personal information next to it.
Three Recommendations:
1. There isn't any student work or pictures.  Students love to see their work and pictures online.
2. The students can't access any of the assignments that they are working on from the website.  I know that in middle school they do long range projects.  It would be helpful to parents and students if they could access the assignments online.  They always seem to leave things at school.
3. What about a reading discussion center?  Students at the sixth grade level could read their novels and then participate in an online discussion of  novel.
