Immigration WebQuest

Here is not merely a nation, but a teeming nation of nations.

                                         Walt Whitman

Introduction
Everyone in America is an immigrant.  Do you know where your ancestors immigrated from?  Do you know when they immigrated?  Americans have immigrated from all over the world for different reasons.  Some individuals migrate to America for a better life, while others flee their country for safety.  In this activity you will be part of a group that will investigate four waves of immigration.  You will become an "expert" on a particular time period, which you will present to your group.

Task
You are to become an expert  on a period of immigration. The periods we will study are:
( 1607-1830 | 1830-1890 | 1890-1924 | 1968-Present ) You will then present  what you have learned in the form of a power point presentation to your group members who have studied the other three periods of immigration. You will create six sections in your power point presentation.  Your presentation will include answers to the following questions:
1- What time period are you studying?
2- Who were/are the immigrants coming to America?
3-How are they arriving?/ How did they arrive?
4-What is the process for entering the U.S.?
5-Where are they settling?/Where did they settle?
6- How are/were they being treated by other Americans?
7- What opportunities for success do immigrants have?

After everyone in your group has presented, your group will look for trends in migration by looking for  similarities and differences in immigration.

Resources
You will be able to find information to help you write your power point presention about immigration during your time period from these linked sites below.

3- Begin with the  first resource stated above to find information that will highlight immigration.
4- Look for pictures or graphics that will aid you in the development of your display.  Save these to your disk.
5- Once you have gathered all of your information, you will use Power Point to make a presentation for your group members.
6- Present you Power Point Presentation to your group.
7- Once everyone has presented their time period, your group ill chart similarities and differences between the different time periods. You should look for trends in immgration as well as unique characteristics of a time period.  Use the chart paper to record your results.

Conclusion
Through this exercise you will have  had the opportunity to research migration to the U.S. by using the Internet.  You will have created a Power Point Presentation and presented it to members of your group.  You will have examined immigration from 1607 to present day by looking for any similarities and differences among waves.
